Introduction

Phakisa Holdings is currently looking for Handyman in the Heidelberg area. – R110.00 P/H

This role is responsible for the up keeping and general maintenance of the Buildings.

Provide efficient and effective support to the Facilities Department including ensuring the general appearance of the building(s) and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • General Maintenance Programme
  • Create a Maintenance Programme for company premises, Responsible for all planned preventative maintenance on site, including but not limited to proactive and reactive work.
  • Keep a Log of all maintenance performed
  • Undertake minor items of repair and maintenance to company premises for the benefit and safety of personnel and contractors. Including the minor repair of fixtures and fittings including desks, tables, and chairs as appropriate.
  • Responsible for painting of small areas, when necessary
  • Deal with minor repairs where necessary as instructed by the Facility Manager
  • Align and Incorporate Annual EHS services in Maintenance programme
  • Assist with general House Keeping of premises (carpet tiles, skirting, Fire doors, Door hinges, etc.)

  • Plumbing
  • Checking drains and Flushing of unused areas
  • Monthly checks on Taps, fixture, and fittings (Keep register)
  • Assist with minor plumbing including unblocking sinks and drains etc
  • Lighting / Electrical
  • Replacement of fused light bulbs
  • Portable electrical Monthly checks
  • Responsible for Portable Appliance Testing i.e., testing and maintenance of electrical equipment in relevant area of responsibility
  • Tidy and maintain lose cables
  • Deal with minor electrical repairs and fixings
  • Moving of equipment & Furniture
  • Assist with Furniture and Equipment when required
  • Assist with placement of chairs for Indaba’s

  • Health & Safety practices
  • Contactor Management of Contractors and service providers
  • Update and maintain contractor files
  • Issue permit to works when required
  • Keep premises Neat & Tidy
  • Regularly check external areas for any potential danger to people on site
  • Help to create a safe & healthy working environment at company premises
  • Adhere to Health & safety practices
  • Adhoc
  • Assist with adhoc duties as and when required.
  • Assist with collecting and delivering of packages
  • Support with other cleaning duties as and when required
  • External environment
  • The job holder will be required to liaise with external contractors. Therefore, the job holder must demonstrate sound interpersonal, communication and negation skills.

  • Internal environment
    • The position is situated within Heidelberg Factory, but may require assisting all BAT premises within scope, and reports to the Manager: Facilities Engineer.
    • The jobholder must be able to communicate and liaise with personnel daily in a professional manner.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric
  • Competent at basic building repairs and maintenance (including painting and prepping).
  • Use of small industrial/electrical/mechanical equipment
  • Good working knowledge in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Literacy and Numeracy skills sufficient to check delivery notes, measurements etc
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and precautions, including COSHH regulations and an awareness of health and hygiene procedures
  • Knowledge in Contractor management Preferable
  • SHE (safety, Health & Environmental) Background beneficial
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
